I try to place TIFF images rendered from Blender and get the error "Error encountered while reading TIFF image. Image may be damaged or incompatible."
While this was no problem at all in all previous versions of Indesign (2022, 2021, …) version 2023 can't handle them anymore. Also opening files previously created with version 2022 containing those tiff's can be openend, however, I get errors trying to make pdf's and they show grey.
Open them and resave in photoshop, without changing any settings, solves this issue, however, I have hundreds Indesign files containing much of those files.
The TIFF's are saved with zip compression, since all others (LZW, No compression) gives me images where the transparency is shown black, so no option for me.
In the future I can use other file formats for my render, but I would like to continue use my old TIFF's.
I attached 1 example image.

I had the same problem, opened the Illustrator file (.eps) and there was a font problem, fonts appeared highlighted in pink. I replaced the font with a current font, resaved the .eps - problem solved.
The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2024(v19.5.3.144). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application click on the context menu on the top right, and click on Check for App Updates.

My InDesign 19.5.2 suddenly can't open ALL files properly. It kept saying "Error encountered while reading tiff image" even when there's no tiff in the indd document. All images and text disappear. It may reload the image if I relink it and resave the file. But I can't do this to ALL my files which have numerous images in them.....
I'm still using my 11.4 MacOS. So I can't update to the latest InDesign app just yet.
Help, please!

This is a wild guess, and as a Windows guy I can't tell you how to check, but it might be a simple permissions issue. I'd try running Cocktail or similar utility if you have it.

I assume you can't update your Mac to a newer system?
In any case, try these general troubleshooting steps first:

Thank you, Leo. I have delete the cache and the preference folder. It works a little better, but somes images still not showing up properly (with the same error message). Before I'm ready to update my Mac, I'll just have to roll back to 19.5.1 for now.

This is not the first report of issues with 19.5.2. You might have to roll back for the time being.

Thank you, Brad. Everything is normal again when I rolled back to 19.5.1! I guess I'm just not ready for an upgrade for the time being.

Rolling back to 19.5.1 fixed it for me as well. Thank you Brad and Karen. I wish Adobe would do a better job with QC on releasing stable updates. It seems like every time I install an "update," I lose several hours of unbillable time troubleshooting trying to make it work.

Wait 6-9 months before updating software or OS versions. And never update in the middle of a project. InDesign 2025 came out in October 22, 2024. Using my timeframe, one shouldn't update until April-July.

It could be that the image is saved on a cloud dtve like dropbox or similar and is not complete local or offline available. If this is the case, ensure that the file is complete available. E. g. In the context menu you find the command to make the file offline available.
if those is not the case, oben the file in Photoshop and resave it as new TIF or PSD and use that file.

I had the same issue today! I had to roll back to previous release of InDesign 2024. I notices it had, in my case, something to do with .EPS files. Very annoying as the message popsup every second ... Adobe fix this please! it worked fine in previous version!

Why do you use EPS in modern times?

Because, some files are created over 8 years ago. I personally never use .EPS myself. We probably have over 5000 eps files on out server over a period over 30 years.

The problem does not occur on InDesign CC 2025 (latest build) … so it is by my knowledge/testing strictly related to version 19.5.2. How is this possible Adobe? … Do we really have to fear each time for new flaws when an update is released?

This problem is not related to InDesign. See my first post here.

Hmmm, then why does the error not happen in 19.5.1, or earlier and also not in 2025 version? It only happens in 19.5.2. I would think, and believe its a 19.5.2 issue.

While I agree that EPS should not be used in a modern workflow, both times listed here, the problem was solved by going back an update. Logically, the problem must be with InDesign.

I have the same problem. But there is no TIFF file in my document. All eps or ai. How can I get rid off this nonsense?

I beleive the .eps file uses a .TIFF preview...

Get rid from EPS, use AI or PDF/X-4 in modern times.

I fully agree on that ... BUT ... you can't change a ridiculous amount off EPS files on a project when you have very limited time. Problem is a 19.5.2 issue for as far I can tell. earlier version of 2024 or even 2023, 2022 don't have it. Even 2025 doesn't have it. I agree that EPS is dead, and i never ever use it anymore when I create files. BUT... again ... long time projects before my time were build with EPS files, and rooting this out takes a long time, and on certain projects we only have limited dedicated time

So, yes, going forward, one should use .AI and .PDF, but there's literally no need to worry about wasting time converting legacy files..
PostScript is still very much core to professional output workflows. PDF is just the logical extension to it, the same way PS Level 2 was an extension of the original PS, and PS Level 3 was an extension of PS 2. The PDF core is essentially PS 3 with all the new capabilities it contains, especially the native support of transparency and colour mangement. It could just have well been called PostScript Level 4. 😉
That being said, the reason EPS is an issue now is that they REQUIRE a Postscript printer/output to render properly. Not many people outside a professional workflow have that. At best, they will have a home printer with an embedded PDF engine, which, again, is like having a printer with all that PS 3 can do, plus more. Even so, exporting a file with EPS in it from, say, InDesign will process that PS and "RIP" it to PDF, so no problem there either.
In any case, we do not know yet what the issue is with 19.5.2, so let Adobe figure that out as the reports of problems roll in. Blaming it on TIFF previews in EPS files is just guessing. .AI files can also contain/link to TIFF images.
