Since the numerous problems I was encountering with 20.2 I have been using 19.5.2 version for weeks and I have LITERALLY just opened up my files this morning and this issue has started. It seems to be older (2023-ish) files. Luckily I had the idml vesions to hand and when I opened those I didn't get the issue. I've resaved the .idml files as .indd where I can but I've also just noticed a 19.5.3 bug fix available - does this resolve the issue? Madness that this is only just happening for me when I've been using it for weeks with no problems.

Unfortunately all elements of the image are under strict client confidentiality so I cannot share the file. I'll just carry on with 2021 for the time being. At least that's working for me.

Possibly. Either that or they're pulling files off a shared server, or from a Cloud-based library, both of which I don't have access to. But it's just strange that a 4 year-old version of the software can simply just crunch its way through, no problem.

I've hit exactly the same issue with some third party assets I've just been sent. None of the above workarounds are working for me and I can't see any of the links missing. If I try and open the file in a different colour profile I get a notification saying it can't open the file due to missing links. If I open the file in the colour profile it was created in, it opens, but then it won't let me edit/crop the canvas or convert folders to Smart Objects because of the same missing link problem. Ironically, I just opened up the file in an old 2021 Photoshop I have an my old Mac and it opened fine, no problems whatsoever, so I'm having to edit it on that. (Might I add that despite it being a 14 year-old iMac running legacy software, it's way, way faster and responsive than the 2025 version. Shocking!). Could the problem be something to do with colour profile assignment?

Issue resolved - binned off 2025 and reinstalled 2024. It took a while to back-save all my working files but it's the best decision I've made. I just won't be updating to the current version now. Don't need the problems and I certainly don't need the useless generative AI rubbish. 2024 version does exactly what I want. There's no need to update if you don't need to. It offers nothing extra that benefits my workflow. If more people dumped 2025 and reverted back to more stable versions then the InDesign team wouldn't have the userbase engagements to justify their constant slapdash updating.

I've simply stopped using it. I became fed up of the software/team focusing on cloud-based services. If you're not going to be considerate of my workflow, then you're not the product for me. I haven't used it in months.

And, of course, because of their glaring errors and the time wasting we've incurred fudging through projects and finally needing to reinstall stable versions of the software, Adobe have offered to discount our subscription fee until this is fixed. Oh, wait....

Uninstalled 2025 and went back to 2024. Job done. It was a slight hassle exporting idml files and reopening/resaving but I'm glad I did it. I'll be skipping the current abomination now. It offers nothing extra to my workflow.

ANOTHER prompt! This time, different, and now obscuring any other workflow I have in the foreground. This is whilst I'm working in Illustrator, and it's done the same thing over the top of my emails. It just pops up in front of everything. This is unacceptable. PLEASE STOP DOING THIS. I'll update when I'm good and ready. This is bordering on SPAM.

I tried to keep working but it became so bad I decided to open all my files as I needed them, export as idml and then reopen the idmls in ID2024.

Sadly, no Magnet app to blame on my machine. I've defaulted to using 2024 and won't be upgrading again any time soon.

Does somebody have a link to an existing post in User Voice for this ridiculous change? I don't want to start a new thread if one already exists and I can't find one (conveniently) when searching. What a ridiculous idea. Who's user testing this rubbish?

I knew something felt off when using InDesign 2025 - Adobe have switched the Cancel and Don't Save buttons around! WHY, Adobe, WHY?!!!!? Why would you change an integral part of our workflow that we have spent years adapting our muscle memory to? What is the point in that? InDesign 2024 InDesign 2024 InDesign 2025 InDesign 2025 2025 gets worse every time I open it. Please change it back to what we're familiar with. there is absolutely no point in making these types of changes.

I've just reverted back to 2024 and it's so much better. What's interesting as well is that in 2024 the file is 51.2MB but in 2025 the file is 81.8MB. It's exactly the same file - why is it the file size over 50% bigger in 2025?!!

I'm getting random lagging back again today, so it hasn't been a permanent fix. I'm planning on switching back to 2024 but as working in 2025 has meant converting my documents to the latest update (why is that even a thing?), has anybody had any issues with reverting back?

Same problem here since OS Sequoia 15.1.1 update yesterday, but this solution worked for me, thank you. I believe it was the Window/Output/Preflight which was causing the lag. Even so, I've switched off all of them and it's helped.

@Electric_Dusk5C6D I have all your apps, including CC, quit/closed, but the update prompt has just shown up at the bottom right of my screen again, so it's being pushed from somewhere. It's not what I consider 'critical workflow', so why is this showing when I have notifications turned off? This doesn't seem right and is somewhat intrusive, especially as I have already indicated which notifications I wish to receive.

I agree @D Fosse . It's not necessary to prompt regular users about new releases. We update when we're ready or when we're confident issues have been ironed out. I'm also heavily reticent to update since Adobe have been heavily pushing AI and Collaboration tools onto me. These are things I simply don't need or want so when an app is promoted with them I don't see the need to improve my workflow. @Electric_Dusk5C6D - my main concern is where are these updates being pushed from and how are you accessing my machine? If I have CC closed and Photoshop closed, and update notifications are switched off, why am I still seeing this pop-up and what part of my system are you exploiting to do this?

The screenshot is my existing settings. Nothing has changed since I first set CC up - I've always kept app update notifications off for this reason. I posted the screen as a follow up before your first response came through but it appears to have posted after yours. I've tried a reinstallation today so let's see if it works. I've only started seeing this pop-up in the last week or so and it sits bottom right of my desktop. It still sits there when I quite Photoshop and CC so I have no idea why it's there and where it's being pushed from.

This is something that is really annoying me. Photoshop is now sending me update prompts on my desktop. Even when I close the lightbox window it reappears every day or two. I've tried quitting Photoshop and Creative Cloud and updating my notification preferences on Creative Cloud, yet it continues to appear at the bottom right-hand side of my desktop. It's not even set up in my System Settings notifications so how and why are you doing this? How do I switch it off and, if I can't, please can Adobe switch it off? I don't need further prompts from you suggesting I update my apps - I can see them in Creative Cloud and will decide when I update when I'm good and ready. I'm unhappy that you even have the ability to do this on my desktop. I didn't choose to receive these notifications so please advise on how I remove them or remove completely - you're populating my work screen with unecessary information. The fact the window is still active when I have quite both CC and Photoshop is concerning in itself. PLEASE REMOVE.

I experience this problem as well. It only appears to be on one specific set of templates supplied by the client. Unfortunately I am in the same position regarding sharing the project files as they are confidential and I am expressly forbidden to forward them on. See my attachment of my swatch palette - wherever you see 'FIXED' and 'TBD_TBC' and a number after each, they are duplicate swatches and they all have the same colour values.

I recently had to create an invoice for a client in Illustrator with minimal copy applied. The illustrator file was 361K, yet the Acrobat PDF which I exported using standard PDF/X-4:2010 (Acrobat 7) came to 2.2MB. That seems disproportionately large for such a small, single page project. Any thoughts on why?

If Adobe were genuinely, genuinely looking for ways to improve Acrobat then you'd revert back to the v9 interface. These current iterations as so visually inconsistent with the rest of the CC suite that you must be developing in your own, little cocoon. I have no wish to use the current version so please don't suggest that familiarising myself with it will change my mind. And no amount of new tools and actions will change my thinking, either. The fact you are still trying to force this change down our throats shows you don't actually appreciate our 'valuable' feedback anyway as you're still continuing to try and upsell it to us.

It's a fairly complex file - multiple layers, psds, .ai files, etc., so something is awry. Other files are running fine and I've tested the file on local, server, and desktop, but still getting the same issue. I'm going to try and find the time to simplify it and test layers later but all dependant upon work schedules. I have more complex projects that I tested last night using @rob day 's latest link and they worked fine. Unfortunately I can't share the file publically due to the confidentiality of the project.

Many thanks, Rob. That's what I'd been using. I just deleted the old version and added the new one you sent a link to. Just installed it and I'm getting an error when running (see screen shot) but it still seems to crunch its way through and finish the task. Thankfully, as I'm on a deadline to get assets out!
