Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 2172 into law - a Bill that authorizes local control of State Route 133 in Laguna Beach on the portion of Route 133 that is located from Coast Highway all the way to El Toro Road.

By gaining control of SR-133 (Laguna Canyon Road), the City of Laguna Beach can increase traffic safety and implement wildfire prevention measures to quickly stop and prevent fires that may stem from accidents like this one on Wednesday.

We are thankful to Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris for her assistance with this Bill and are grateful for its success!

Today We Remember Harry Lawrence in Laguna Beach

Harry Lawrence was a long-time resident, business owner and community activist until his death in 2012. His most notable accomplishments include volunteering for the Playhouse, Rotary Club, Festival of Arts and the Laguna Art Museum.

Harry Lawrence also founded the Beautification Council and was given the nickname “Mr. Laguna.” However, one of his most famous legacy’s in Laguna Beach was creating the financing that allowed for the purchase of Main Beach Park also referred to as the “window to the sea.”

To honor all that he did for the Laguna Beach Community, the City Council approved a proclamation in 2008 proclaiming today, October 1, as Harry Lawrence Day each year.
