Governor Outlines Guidance for Lower-Risk Workplaces to Reopen Friday With Modifications

Today Governor Gavin Newsom announced that starting Friday, May 8, 2020, some lower-risk California businesses will be allowed to reopen with modifications. Watch Dr. Mark Ghaly, secretary of the California Health and Human Services, outline the opening guidelines below.

This early Phase 2 modification of the stay-at-home order affects "low risk" businesses such as clothing stores, florists, bookstores and sporting good stores — all of these businesses may reopen Friday with modifications including the use of curbside pickup for the time being.

County of Orange Receives State Approval to Reopen Some South Laguna Beaches for Active Recreation Soon

Earlier today, the County of Orange received approval from the State of California for its four-phase plan to re-open some County operated beaches soon.

At the Board of Supervisor’s meeting earlier this week, Supervisor Lisa Bartlett brought forth a motion, that was approved on a 3-2 vote, for staff to develop and submit a plan to the State that would allow for limited, active recreational use of county operated beaches.

“Laguna Beach is very appreciative of the leadership role that Supervisor Bartlett played in ensuring that the County beaches in South Laguna operate in a manner consistent with our City beaches," said Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen. "I thank her on behalf of our entire City for her outstanding work on this issue!”

The County's beach reopening plan will go into effect soon and aligns with approved local city beach reopening plans. It also identifies permitted and non-permitted beach activities.

County beaches in South Laguna Beach (Aliso Beach, Table Rock, West, Camel Point and Treasure Island beaches) will reopen soon from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. weekdays for active recreation. Thousand Steps Beach will remain closed.

County beaches will remain CLOSED on weekends.

Thousand Steps & Totuava Beaches are closed due to a diesel spill while a crew conducts clean-up. Because of this, you may smell a strong odor of gas throughout the City.
