Let Employers See You Are Coming

By clicking ATTEND and uploading your resume, employers get to know you're coming to the fair. They can access your resume and see if you've marked them as a favorite. Aim to have your resume uploaded and click ATTEND prior to the Fair. Employers may begin looking at resumes early.

  1. Upload your resume under Documents
  2. Click Events, and choose Type = Career Fairs to find the Brandywine Fair
  3. Click Employers to see who is attending and filter by major, types of positions and more
  4. Star your favorites so employers know you are interested
  5. Click Attend once you've done all this so employers can access your resume and get to know you before the fair even starts!

See Which Employers are Attending

(check back regularly since employers are still registering)

• Login, click Events / Select Type = Fairs / Find the BW Fair / Advanced Search to select criteria

• Determine which employers are of interest to you. Make a prioritized list of who you will visit. Select your “Top 10”.

• Find their job/internship postings or go to their website to find them if not in NLC.

• Upload your resume(s) to NLC (up to 10 documents allowed) by clicking on Documents & update your profile.

Prepare what to Wear

Prepare to wear professional looking attire, neat & clean with appropriate coverage and nicer shoes (preferably comfortable shoes for your sake!)

Don't miss the free clothing event at BW

Oct. 11th, 11:30am - 2:00pm in 114 SUB

You can also visit The Wardrobe, located in Lansdowne & Philly. Let them know you're a college student on a tight budget and they will provide low cost or, depending on your income, free attire.

Additional Prep Tips

• Print enough resumes for the organizations that interest you plus a few extra.

• Develop an introductory statement to use as you meet employers.

• Meet with a Career Coach in your Career Services office to review your resume.

• Research the organizations that interest you via some or all: Website, LinkedIn, their social media.

• Prepare to ask informed questions. Rather than, “What positions do you have?” state “I noticed on your jobs webpage / NLC, you show… Can you tell me what qualities you are looking for in your candidates?”

The Big Day ~ October 19th

11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.

Come and go as you are able

PSU Brandywine Gym

On the day of the fair, dress professionally and bring plenty of copies of your resume (copy services will not be available).

Know which employers you want to visit!

It's important plan in advance, lookup in NLC who is attending and which openings they have posted (in NLC or elsewhere).

Make your list, notes with questions about their positions, and find them at the fair. They'll be arranged in alphabetical order.

What about the Handshake?

Anyone not wanting to make physical contact will be offered the opportunity to wear a red dot sticker. If an employer is wearing a red sticker, do not extend your hand for a handshake but rather, nod and smile (seen in your eyes even when wearing a mask) and tell the employer "it's very nice to meet you."

If an employer extends their hand and you're not comfortable shaking it (whether or not you have a red sticker), perhaps smile, nod and politely state that you are respecting the health of all (or whatever language makes you comfortable).

Additional Tips: Day of Fair

• If this is your first fair and you are nervous, you might start with some of your lower priority companies to become comfortable with the process. Move onto your higher priority companies as you gain confidence.

• Display confidence - approach employers, smile and introduce yourself. Employers will get to see your interpersonal communication skills. Practice in advance.

• Be prepared to ask informed questions (not "what does your company do?" or "where are you located?").

• Express interest and enthusiasm. Provide employers with a copy of your resume and convey why you are a good fit for the position / organization (major, unique skills, experience).

• Thank recruiters for their time and ask for their business card so you can follow-up with a thank you note.

• Collect company information for further research. Help yourself to giveaways after you’ve had a conversation.
