Coyote Activity Prompts Action and Safety Reminders
Following a coyote attack on a resident this morning near Oak Street and Temple Terrace, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the US Department of Agriculture are working to capture the coyote in question.
The City is asking residents to be vigilant and alert until the coyote is captured. The City would also like to take this opportunity to remind residents of important safeguards to protect themselves and their pets and property from these wild animals.
Like most communities located in semi-rural areas, Laguna Beach has active coyote populations. Due to the brushy canyon areas and natural “den” type rock formations, our hillsides provide an attractive environment for coyotes and other animals.
However, coyotes do not require open space to survive, and have successfully adapted to living in close proximity to humans.
A Laguna Beach Animal Control Officer will respond to coyote calls if a coyote is seen in the daytime in areas around people, especially children, or anytime there is an attack or threatening behavior towards a person or pet.
If you have any concerns regarding wild animals, or see a coyote in a residential area, please call Laguna Beach Animal Services at (949) 497-0701. You may also report coyote sightings to coyotes@lagunabeachcity.net.
Beaches Open for Active Use Only Weekdays from 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. and on Weekends from 6 a.m. - Noon
Beaches are open on weekdays for active use only and on weekends from 6 a.m. - noon. The County beaches will operate this weekend with hours that coincide with the City beach hours. All dogs must be on a leash at all times on Laguna Beach City beaches.
Beachgoers are required to physical distance at least six (6) feet while on the beach. Face masks are recommended when possible.
If physical distancing guidelines and active recreation requirements are not observed, the beaches will be closed or beach hours will be limited to gain compliance and protect the community.
Construction Update on Critical Downtown Flood Control Facility
Construction crews are replacing the deteriorated outfall structure underneath the boardwalk at Main Beach as part of a City Capital Improvement Project.
The Laguna Channel Improvement Project will reconstruct the outlet structure at Main Beach, reconfigure the transition structure at Beach Street and perform spall repairs throughout the underground portion between Main Beach and Beach Street.
The project will extend the life of this critical flood control facility within the downtown area.
Work is expected to be completed prior to the 4th of July weekend. The boardwalk and cobble stone areas will be restored to pre-construction condition.

City Creates New Webpage to Provide Resources to Local Businesses
The City of Laguna Beach has created a new Resource Webpage and business assistance toolkit for local businesses.
The purpose of the toolkit is to help business owners get the information they need to safely and proactively prepare for reopening, and move past the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Laguna Beach Farmer's Market Saturday
The Laguna Beach Farmer's Market will be open on Saturday, May 16 from 8:00 a.m. to noon in Lot 11 of the Village Entrance located at the corner of Forest Avenue and Broadway.
State of California COVID-19 guidelines allow for the continued operation of certified farmers markets throughout the state of California.
Those guidelines include discontinuing samples, encouraging pre-bagging to expedite purchasing and spacing booths and patrons in accordance with state social distancing measures.
