Pothen named ACM Fellow

Professor Alex Pothen

Professor Alex Pothen is among the 57 distinguished computer scientists named 2022 Fellows by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Alex Pothen, a Purdue University computer scientist and applied mathematician in the Department of Computer Science, was recognized, "for contributions to and leadership in combinatorial scientific computing (CSC)."

Li receives Outstanding Contributions Award from ACM SIGSAC

Professor Ninghui Li

Ninghui Li, Samuel D. Conte Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University was awarded the ACM Special Interest Group on Security, Audit and Control (SIGSAC) Outstanding Contributions Award. Li was recognized for his outstanding leadership in the SIGSAC community and seminal research contributions to data security and privacy.

Shahbaz is part of multi-university research center to develop next-generation evolvable distributed computing technology

Assistant Professor Muhammad Shahbaz

Muhammad Shahbaz, Kevin C. and Suzanne L. Kahn New Frontiers Assistant Professor of Computer Science, whose primary area of research is in systems and architecture, will be part of a new multi-university research center at The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) funded by a $31.5 million grant from the Joint University Microelectronics Program 2.0 (JUMP 2.0).

Bianchi and Celik win ASPIRE Award

Assistant Professors Antonio Bianchi and Z. Berkay Celik

Assistant Professors Antonio Bianchi, Z. Berkay Celik, and their research group in the PurSecLab have won the 2022 Android Security and PrIvacy REsearch (ASPIRE) Award. The research team won the award for their work on improving the security and usability of the Wear OS permission model.

Benes named editor-in-chief of Graphical Models

Professor Bedrich Benes

Berich Benes, Professor of Computer Science in the Department of Computer Science was named editor-in-chief of Graphical Models, an Elsevier publication. Graphical Models (GMOD) is recognized internationally as a highly rated, top tier journal and is focused on the creation, geometric processing, animation, and visualization of graphical models and on their applications in engineering, science, culture, and entertainment.

Atallah one of 29 Purdue innovators recently issued US patent

Distinguished Professor Mikhail Atallah

Distinguished Professor Mikhail Atallah's patent titled, "Computing without Revealing: Order Statistics," allows for greater security when exchanging information online through shared devices.

POPL 2023

Faculty at Purdue CS presented one paper at the 50th ACM SIGPLAN Symposium on Principles of Programming Languages (POPL 2023). The annual Symposium on Principles of Programming Languages is a forum for the discussion of all aspects of programming languages and programming systems. Both theoretical and experimental papers are welcome on topics ranging from formal frameworks to experience reports. We seek submissions that make principled, enduring contributions to the theory, design, understanding, implementation or application of programming languages. The symposium is sponsored by ACM SIGPLAN, in cooperation with ACM SIGACT and ACM SIGLOG.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

AN ERA OF GROWTH

In the profession of computer science, demand for our majors continues to grow - once again we have broken our own record for the number of applications for freshman admissions at more than 8,700. At the start of fall classes, 785 freshman students joined our previous classes for more than 2,600 undergraduates.

This year, freshman women students represent 26% of the undergraduate population and women are 24.3% among all undergraduate students.

GRADUATE PROGRAM

Our graduate population has exploded with 538 MS and PhD students for the 2022-23 academic year. This represents a 26% increase in growth from the previous year.

Purdue Computer Science graduate students work in any of the 11 research areas in the department.

Purdue Computer Science offers the traditional PhD and master's degree programs in addition to both an in-person and online professional master's degree in information security.
