Object paragraph styles not applying

Hi!
So I've set up an object style and a bunch of paragraph styles which all follow on from each other using "Next Style".
I have a text box on each page on a multi-page document and the object style applied to it. When I was testing this I pasted text into the text boxes of 3 pages and I just had to clear overrides on the object style for all the paragraph styles to be applied.
However, after I pasted about 150 pages worth of text in, the object style is not applying the paragraph styles and there is apparently no override. I did use the "clear all overrides" script and I'm wondering if that messed something up? Or maybe there is a bug/glitch or something? Any way to fix this without having to click into every single text box, select all and apply the first style then next style?
Thanks

Is the first paragraph (start) style you use selected in the Object style and is the 'use next style' ticked in the Object style?
- Create one or more Paragraph styles.
- If you want to have sequential styles applied (such as heading, then subhead, then text) be sure to set the Next Style option appropriately in each style (as previously explained).
- Create or edit an Object style.
- On the left, click on Paragraph Styles.
- From the Paragraph Styles menu choose the style you want to apply. If you want to apply multiple sequential styles, choose the first style and then check on Apply Next Style. (InDesign uses the info in each paragraph style to know which styles come next.)

Hello! Thanks for your reply! That's exactly what I have set up, with the next style check box ticked and everything.
It was working exactly as it should have done when I tested it with a couple of pages but as soon as I had pasted all 175 pages in it isn't working at all.
When I tested it, after inoasted the text in, I would have to clear overrides from the object style and all the correct styles would apply.
So when I had pasted all 175 pages worth of text on to their pages, I used the clear all overrides script from the script panel, as opposed to clicking on every page/text box and clearing overrides.
But it didn't work. It says there are no overrides but the styles are not applied. So I now have to double click on every text box to go into it, select all the text and then apply the first style with next style and it flows all the styles as it's meant to.
But that defeated the point of putting it into the object style, and not having to click on and apply everything manually haha.
So it seems like something in the script messed it up and there's some sort of bug because it's saying there are no overrides but the styles that should be applied are not, which would suggest overrides.
Or I've done something wrong but that doesn't seem to be the case given the fact it was working originally, and it's set up as you've described too. 😕

I'm not sure I understand your workflow??
Why do you need ObjectStyle to apply ParaStyle in your "main" text?
You should just use ParaStyles.
If you want to reset local overrides - in the "main" text - you should put text cursor inside the text, click Ctrl+A - Select All - then use Para Styles panel to clear overrides.
And if you want to control formatting of the "text containers" - TextFrames of your "main" text - you should create TextFrame(s) on the MasterSpread(s) , apply ObjectStyle to it(them) - and then load your "main" text into it on a 1st page.

Basically, the content was supplied as 175 separate Pages document for each page and each page is like a reference sheet which follows the exact same format/paragraph style but with different text, it's not a continual story and the formatting is all over the place in the Pages docus. Pasting into a text box that would auto style as per the flow of next syles I set up in the object style seemed quicker than manually applying the paragraph styles over and over again.
Someone on another thread suggested formatting in word and mapping the styles but as I already had the styles set up, am not that familiar with MS word and would have to copy and paste 175 times anyway, this seemed like the better option. Apparently not! I don't think there was any way of making this task any less **** or time consuming by the looks of it haha.
As a side note ID-Tasker looks intriguing, shame it's only for windows though!

So it's kind of an effect of DataMerge...
Yes, ID-Tasker would be perfect - especially if you have to do the same set of mundane clicking 175 times ... It would apply ObjectStyle and cleanup / reformat everything in no time...
Yesterday, I've updated my website - and I'm offering "ID-Tasker as a Service" - if you are interested....

You can apply a Paragraph Style and next style in a text frame if you have defined it in the object style.
it works only if the text frame is not linked to another style.
I apply it in the following way.:
- I import the text as new small text frame on a page with a text frame where later the text should flow in.
- I apply the Object Style to the text frame. The text becomes formatted.
- I link the text frame to the text frame where the text should flow in.
- I delete the text frame which I created with text import.

It might be a problem with triggering the "Use next Style" in the Object style. That function is not triggered until you actually apply the object style on the text frame. And if you already have the object style set for the Text box AND past a text into it that is styled with a paragraph style the result will as you descibe it. The paragraph style on the pasted text will create the override of the Object style.
I think you should to one of the folowing things:
1. Make sure the text box is set to "Basic Text frame. Past the text ito it, select the correct object style. That will trigger the style chain in the text box with no override.
2. Use a textbox with the Object style, but past the text using "paste without formating". By doing so there will be no style on the text you past = No override of the object style setting.

Sorry, I was wrong on alt 2. It's not working either.
So only option 1 works. But if you still want to past the text into a text framer with the object style already in plase I suggest you create a custom short cut for the object panel menu "Clear overrides". That will reset everything witin the textbox accordint to the object style.

Thanks for the idea! Sounds like as much if not ore effort than just pasting into the actual frame, highlighting and applying the first then next style though. As I've already copy and pasted 175 pages of into in I'm not keen to start over either 😕
I don't think the object style is linked to anything else. As someone else said it might be that I needed to apply the object style after pasting the text in but that sort of feels like it defeats part of the point of having set up the style at all 😕
ETA this was meant for Willi Adelburger but it sort of still applies lol. Thanks everyone!
