Bertino included on list for best female scientists in the world
Elisa Bertino, Samuel D. Conte Professor of Computer Science, was selected as one of the Best Female Scientists in the World by Research.com. Bertino was the only reseacher from Purdue University to make the cut. She was chosen based on her H-index, contributions made within the computer science discipline, and her awards and achievements in the field.
Wolfe named provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity
As of Jan. 1, Patrick Wolfe will become Purdue’s next provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity. Wolfe, currently the Frederick L. Hovde Dean of the College of Science and the Miller Family Professor of Statistics and Computer Science, was chosen from a field of more than 20 nominees and 10 applicants to succeed Provost Jay Akridge, who has held the position since 2017.
Brânzei named Kavli Fellow by the National Academy of SciencesProfessor Simina Brânzei
Assistant Professor Simina Brânzei was named a Kavli Fellow by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). The Kavli Frontiers of Sciences Symposium is the Academy’s premiere activity for distinguished young scientists. A committee of NAS members selected the participants from early-career researchers who have made recognized contributions to science.
Spafford wins ACSAC Cybersecurity Artifacts Competition and Impact Award
Professor Eugene H. Spafford won the ACSAC 2022 Cybersecurity Artifacts Competition Impactful System Award for his artifact, Tripwire: Integrity Scanning as Intrusion Detection. Spafford’s work was selected for its significant impacts on cybersecurity research and practice.
BANDS Workshop at ICLR 2023
The Department of Computer Science welcomes attendees to BANDS (Backdoor Attacks and Defenses in Machine Learning) on May 5, 2023 in conjuction with ICLR 2023. The workshop aims to bring together researchers from government, academia, and industry that share a common interest in exploring and building more secure machine learning models against backdoor attacks.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
AN ERA OF GROWTH
In the profession of computer science, demand for our majors continues to grow - once again we have broken our own record for the number of applications for freshman admissions at more than 8,700. At the start of fall classes, 785 freshman students joined our previous classes for more than 2,600 undergraduates.
This year, freshman women students represent 26% of the undergraduate population and women are 24.3% among all undergraduate students.

Our graduate population has exploded with 538 MS and PhD students for the 2022-23 academic year. This represents a 26% increase in growth from the previous year.
