As a graduate student, I am pursuing my master’s in Economics and Management in Italy. My studies and my previous work experiences have always taken me in the direction of the financial industry. After several international experiences, I was seeking the perfect internship to complete my studies the best way and after careful consideration, Clearstream was the obvious choice.

Clearstream met my requirements in terms of professionalism and international standard.

I also chose Clearstream because of the location. Luxembourg is the place where cultures from all over the world intersect and it is a key financial hub within Europe.

When I decided to apply for an internship at Clearstream, I chose the Investment Fund Services department, specifically the Vestima Service Design & Implementation team. I believed it would give me the opportunity to gain some good insight into the investment fund business, as I wanted to broaden my knowledge in this area.

Just from the role description, I was sure that I could really benefit from it and achieve what I want. In addition, I hoped to gain some vital experience by interacting with the key players from the market and industry.

I was not disappointed!

My typical day began with a coordination meeting with one of the migration managers where priorities were defined and tasks assigned. The team focuses on the training and onboarding of new clients into the fund order routing platform Vestima.

In addition, as Clearstream is a global entity, I also had to communicate with teams in other locations. The interns are supported well within the team, but also we are given many responsibilities, for example, managing multiple tasks, being given the freedom to work independently, being in touch directly with transfer agents and clients etc.

More specifically, my job was to assist the migration manager in the coordination of the customer onboarding; therefore I was in daily contact with fund management companies, transfer agents and investors from all over the world.

Some final advice...

The best advice I could give to a prospective intern is to make the most of your time at Clearstream. Clearstream is not only a global company, it is one of the best opportunities for students to gain insight into the real working world with some real hands on experience. Here you will meet people from all over the world thus expanding your knowledge of the finance industry.

My final piece of advice would be this: don’t be afraid and take full advantage of having the opportunity to work in a global company, you will be sure to have an unforgettable experience and to reach your goals.
