Laguna Beach Fire Crews Deployed to Help Fight Wildfires Around State

Governor Declares Statewide Emergency Due to Fires, Extreme Weather Conditions

Hundreds of wildfires fueled by strong winds, dry conditions and lightning strikes have burned more than 300,000 acres across California. Currently there are over 30 working wildland fires throughout the state with over 100 remote fires that are actively burning and being monitored.

This week Governor Gavin Newsom declared a statewide emergency to help ensure the availability of vital resources to combat fires burning across the state, which have been exacerbated by the effects of the historic West Coast heatwave and sustained high winds.

Laguna Beach Firefighter Jeff White is part of the crew deployed to help fight fires at the Carmel Fire in Monterey County today.

Laguna Beach Firefighters are assisting with this endeavor with both our Cal OES Fire Engine #313 in Monterey County at the Carmel Vegetation Fire, and wildland Fire Engine #302 at the Holser Fire near Lake Piru. This afternoon, the Laguna Beach crew that was at Lake Piru left that fire and is en route to help fight the Carmel Vegetation Fire.

"I am proud of our firefighters for assisting where they can, and I hope for a safe and quick return for our team," said Laguna Beach City Manager John Pietig.

Our State Mutual Aid system is very responsive and dynamic, but only works because of the commitment from cities like ours, that participate when help is needed. As we respond to help those in need, the City of Laguna Beach will receive help if and when we need it.
