Drvmroll PRESS KIT

Derek Asare Amoah (born March 29, 1992), known professionally as Drvmroll, is a Ghanaian Music producer, occasional Video editor & Graphic Designer. He is popularly known for the productions of some Ghanaian classic hits such as All Black by E.L and Tomorrow by M.anifest featuring Grammy nominated Afro-fusion artist, Burna Boy.

Early Life

Born on the 29th of March, 1992 to Kojo & Mary Amoah and grew up as the elderly brother to two brothers and a sister. His mother used to be in in the church choir and his father an University Administrator but also a music lover. So it came as no surprise that his father started to nudge him towards learning the piano.

Unfortunately, I never did as I had absolutely no interest in music at the time.

After his fathers passing in 2008, he found himself writing music instead and was known more as a rapper under the moniker Dboi & later Dboi Yuno (pronounced The Boy You Know). He connected with a group of creatively like-minded peers from his school, Labone Senior High and their band, The Khidz Next Door, was born.

Upon acquiring a room at his Aunts for a studio set up, he takes the initiative to learn music production as a means of helping his crew since they had no in-house producer. He learnt to use FL Studio 8 (formerly Fruity Loops) and Cubase 5 through YouTube tutorials. He produced a number of songs for himself and crew and his productions started to gain a little attention amongst other underground acts.

As the workload started to grow overtime, he teams up with a fellow producer to create the Music Production duo, Drumroll. However, this collaboration did not last for too long. Derek eventually decides to maintain the name for himself as a music producer & would later style Drumroll as Drvmroll in an attempt to have a unique twitter handle, which eventually sticks.

Music career

In mid 2014, Oluwa is involved, a Hiphop/Rap single from multiple award winning Ghanaian musician, Sarkodie, is released which features Paedae/Omar Sterling of R2Bees & is closely followed by a music video. This shot up his popularity overnight and had people wondering as his appearance into the music scene was out of the blue.

Mid 2015, he was responsible for the production of two of the most popular songs off the BAR 2 mixtape by E.L. All Black featuring Joey B, Pappy Kojo and K.W.A.C (King Without a Crown) were released with music videos for both songs in which Drvmroll himself makes an appearance in KWAC.

In 2016, he produced 2 records each for two Ghanaian Rap music pioneers, J.Town & Jayso.

0106 (1st June, marking Jayso's birthday), became the first of the Ep series.

Track 2 - Atlantis Nights & Track 10 - Mrs. Jones

Later in the same year, he co-produced Seasons for Nigerian musician Ice Prince alongside producer illkeyz. He also worked on productions for numerous artist Ep's.

Few months later, M.anifest released his third studio album “Nowhere Cool” with Drvmroll producing half the project i.e Tracks 1, 3, 4, 9, 11, 13 and co-produced track 14 with music producer, Jayso.

He began to explore more with sounds and was influenced by the EDM sub genre, Future Bass. He made his first first EDM remix of Worlasi's Nukata, few days after its release via Soundcloud. This refreshing sound gained Drvmroll a lot more attention as the blend of Future Bass and Afro Beats was not so popular in the music scene.

Amongst numerous releases in that same year, he released his debut EDM/Hiphop single, BlvckHeart (BlackHeart) on the 29th of March 2017 and followed by Before V Go in 2018. This stamped his name as one of Ghana's first EDM producers.

as the creative i am, I have never limited myself in anything i do. same goes for my music. i love making music of any genre. afro beats was particularly a challenge for me because of my hip hop foundation.

Drvmroll and M.anifest have worked closely over the years on numerous projects due to the fact that he was good at fusing Afro Beats, Hi-life music and Hip-Hop.

So in 2019, The Gamble Ep was released with Drvmroll producing 3 records. Tomorrow, which was the single off the 7 song Ep, featured Grammy nominated Afro-fusion artist, Burna Boy.

Influences

I began my journey influenced internationally by productions from Timbaland, Boi-1da, Ryan Leslie and Kanye West. As my sound grew, so did my influencers. Jon Bellion, Film Noir Sound, Chainsmokers being a few honorable mentions.
