The $10 rule DTC SECRET #5

THE SECRET

This rule was adapted from a dear friend of mine who is a serial impulse buyer with only the best intentions in mind. Whenever you’re with him, either at a random gas station or in a Chinatown art shop he will grab funny things and ask “How much is this?” If they come back under $10 he usually bites. If it’s more he will try to negotiate them down. Either way the kitschy hat is going on your head or funky scarf is getting wrapped around your neck. At the time it seems unnecessary, but a few weeks later you grab that hat and laugh while wearing it to a neighborhood BBQ all with a good story in hand. I use this in DTC #9 Instant Classic when we went searching through the Last Bookstore for records. I let my girlfriend know she had $10 in credit for a record. The purchase made sense when it was finally played at Bernadette’s and she now has a momento for that random day in the future when she wants to play some tunes. For an extra bonus sneak a note in there at the end of the night reminding whomever about the date.
