Under the Big Top Radnor Elementary School Celebrates circus week, Oct. 14-18

Radnor Elementary School welcomed circus artists from the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts for a week-long residency from Oct. 14-18. Fourth-graders concluded the week with a performance for parents, students and staff members on Friday.

Students in all grades learned a variety of circus skills during regularly scheduled Physical Education, Health and Wellness classes.

The skills learned align with many of the National and State Standards in Physical Education, such as eye-hand coordination; balance; concentration; confidence; self-image; reaction time; spatial awareness; achievement due to persistence; practice; perseverance; development of physical fitness; and stress relief.

Skills included balancing feathers, diablo, flower sticks, spinning plates, juggling and stilt-walking.

4th-grade students concluded the week with a performance for parents, schoolmates and staff members on Oct. 18.

Circus Week is coordinated by Physical Education, Health and Wellness teachers Doug Nowak and Gylene Snyder and sponsored by the school's parent-teacher organization and the Radnor Educational Foundation.
