A Year as Miss Midwest after winning crown, josephine terry prepares for national contest in florida

Bemidji State University sophomore Josephine Terry will spend the next year wearing the crown of Miss Midwest.

Terry, a mass communication major from Proctor, Minn., won a title at the USA National Minnesota pageant, held Feb. 25-26 in Minnetonka, Minn. As Miss Midwest, she will compete in the USA National Miss pageant in Boca Raton, Fla., in July.

The pageant included interview, evening gown and runway competitions, and Terry finished as first runner up behind Miss Minnesota winner Kayla Kleinstupper.

As Miss Midwest, Terry is looking forward to a year filled with appearances and volunteer work with the five other women who won crowns during the pageant.

“I’m looking forward to doing a lot of volunteer work and making appearances,” she said.

She also will spend time preparing for the national competition.

“There’s a full week of activities planned in Florida,” she said. “After being named Miss Midwest, now I get a pageant coach and sponsors who will help me prepare.”

Terry’s Miss Midwest crown is her first in four pageant competitions. She previously competed in the Miss Minnesota Teen USA pageant three times while in high school.

The USA National Miss pageant was founded in 2015 and has programs for women and girls ages 4-25. The program emphasizes personal achievement and community involvement and has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships and prizes. The pageant is partnered with The Crown CARES (Creating A Respectful Environment in Schools). Pageant contestants raise funds to support The Crown CARES Scholarship Fund and visit classrooms to share messages of bullying awareness and prevention.
