A chiNese affair (with food) Inside summer palace restaurant at Edsa shangri-la manila

With a percentage of Chinese blood running through my veins, there's no doubt that I appreciate Chinese cuisine. And despite having to enjoy so many Chinese dishes since childhood, with some already becoming a part of our family tradition, I still believe that it's never too late to try something new.

At Summer Palace in Edsa Shangri-la, one can enjoy tradition while breaking barriers to give way to the latest food trends. At my recent preview lunch at Summer Palace, here is a sneak peek on items you should try to order that can make you say 'yummers!'

Baked Charcoal Bun With Seafood

For starters, one shouldn't miss eating dim sum. These Black Charcoal Buns are filled with savory seafood and cream. One bite of this is bursting with fresh flavors of the sea.

Shrimp Dumplings

In traditional Chinese banquets, Shrimp Dumplings are considered staples, while the Steamed Beef Wagyu Ribs gives a new meaning to the usual Steamed Spareribs that I normally eat in other popular dim sum places.

Pan Fried Duckmeat Buns

Other must tries at Summer Palace include sweet and savory Pan Fried Duckmeat Buns and Deep Fried Mango Shrimp Rolls. Both dishes I think are takeaways from your usual siopao and fried spring rolls. Yum!

Steamed Codfish Fillet with Sea Urchin and Egg White

Before finally digging into the mains, a hearty bowl of soup in a Chinese restaurant is not only considered essential but healthy as well. Small bowls of clear soup is filled with steamed codfish fillet, sea urchin and egg white that gives a creamy yet light texture to the dish.

Stir Fried Kurobuta Pork with Fresh Mushrooms

I think it's known that Chinese food is not only considered as nourishing but also healing. This is evident by the fact that most of the time, an abundant amount of veggies and natural ingredients are used, just like what they did with this plate of Stir Fried Kurobuta Pork with fresh mushrooms.

Sauteed freshly peeled Crabmeat and Scallop with Egg

This and some shells filled with sauteed crabmeat, scallop and egg is always best paired with some good ol' fried rice.

On the other hand, this is not your good ol' Yang Chow Fried Rice. At Summer Palace, feast on some Fried Rice with Duck Liver and Barbecued Meat, aka Foie Gras Rice! So sinful yet so good!

Salted Egg Custard Buns

The desserts at Summer Palace are nothing but amazing. I personally adore these Salted Egg Custard Buns in the form of ducklings. They look exactly like the rubber duckies that you'd play with while taking a bath lol 😅

Chilled Mango Pudding

Oh, and can I just say that Summer Palace has probably the best Chilled Mango Pudding and Buchi in the city?

Crispy Sesame Balls with Red Bean Paste

I literally cried the word HUGE when I saw these sesame balls, only to find out that they are light as a feather when I broke a piece into two! One cannot resist the sweet red bean paste inside an airy fried rice ball. And yes, everything else on this post was de--licious.
