PRESIDENT'S VISION With call for vice presidents & editors

GOING NEAR PAPER-FREE

“Working towards a greener, more sustainable future” is the theme of Glasgow 2019. Applying this to Glasgow, we plan to go near paper-free. For an EYP session, this entails substantial consequences to core parts of our events. Committee Work without post-it’s? General Assembly without Resolution Booklets?

“A kite needs to be tied down in order to fly.”

What seems counterintuitive and like a restriction at first, just means we need to rethink how we do what we do best and will provide the possibility to work on new methodology and maybe even bring the network forward.

WELL-BEING & OWNERSHIP

Acting sustainably does not only mean acting responsibly towards the environment, but also catering to the well-being needs of our session participants. While this has mostly organisational implications, the entire officials team will be required to think about how to achieve both a relaxed and challenging atmosphere and creating a well-balanced experience for the delegates.

Furthermore, ownership will play an important role for Glasgow 2019. The impact this has ranges from working on your own projects or contributing to the overarching session elements of the session to having a great influence on your topic as a chairperson.

INTERACTIVE TOPIC OVERVIEWS

Our classic Topic Overview structure in EYP churns out pdf documents with arrangements of texts and few pictures sprinkled in between. Lately, many sessions have tried to break out of that cage and Glasgow will be no exception to that.

Aiming to cater to different learning types, we will aim to create interactive and modern Overviews that engage the delegates of the Forum. This could mean either going in the direction of a wikia style net of articles similar to the one the last PowerShifts project realised, or a website-style arrangement of different means of media presenting, dissecting, and discussing the session topics. Being part of this project means also impacting how this will be carried out in detail.

INTER-COMMITTEE TIES

Several sessions, small or large, have implemented clusters or focus groups, splitting the various committees of the session into thematic sub-groups and utilising them for knowledge exchange or specific session elements. Learning from the up- and downsides of these concepts, we will aim to best implement this into the session concept of Glasgow 2019, creating meaningful links between the committees of the session.
