Build Your Bucket 2019 Learn What Goes Into Being Prepared

Build Your Bucket is a free family-friendly disaster preparedness expo hosted by the Leon County Government, the City of Tallahassee, and the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. The purpose of this event is to prepare citizens of Leon County with the knowledge and supplies necessary to weather the 2019 Hurricane Season (June 1-November 30).

General Information

  • Date: June 1, 2019
  • Time: 9 A.M. - Noon (Gates open at 8:30)
  • Location: Alfred Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center, 1800 Wahnish Way (on the campus of Florida A&M University)

The Process

The first 800 households will receive a free disaster preparedness bucket with the Build Your Bucket checklist. Dozens of community response groups will offer hand-on demonstrations, valuable information and interactive exhibits to help residents learn more about how to prepare, respond, and recover in the event of a disaster. Attendees can visit exhibitors at their own pace to learn about these local resources.

Parking

Attendees will enter via the center’s main entrance off Wahnish Way. Parking will be free in the lot behind the center near Bragg Memorial Stadium; the parking lot is accessible via Wahnish Way, Gamble Street and Perry Street. The Okaloosa Street entrance will be for handicap parking access only. Handicap parking will be reserved in the lot along the sidewalk adjacent to the center. Gates will open at 8:30 a.m.
