About the Project
Written by playwright Sarah Ruhl, Eurydice re-imagines the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice from Eurydice's perspective. After dying on her wedding day, Ruhl tells of Eurydice's journey to the Underworld, reuniting with her father and rediscovering, piece by piece, her past life. Meanwhile, Orpheus comes closer and closer to finding his wife and bringing her home. Ruhl utilizes abstract imagery and wacky characters in the context of a classic myth to create a truly unique, beautiful story.

Meet the Company
Maddie Elsea (Eurydice & Director)
Maddie's time with the Williston theater dates back to her seventh grade performance as "Lady 2" in Cinderella. A year later, she discovered her passion for directing when she filled the role of assistant director in the middle school's 2015 production of Romeo and Juliet. After moving into the high school, Maddie has continued to both perform in and assistant-direct shows including The Comedy of Errors, Peter and the Starcatcher, Our Town, Into the Woods, The Laramie Project, and Crazy for You. Maddie is beyond excited to be directing her first full-length play, and she can't wait for the audience to experience all of the love and beauty in Eurydice that caused her to fall in love with it in the first place.
Edward bergham (Orpheus)
Edward Bergham is a freshman and is enjoying his first year with the Williston theatre. His acting experience before Williston has ranged everywhere from small middle school plays to high school musical productions of Footloose and Beauty and the Beast. He was also in the recent Williston production of The Laramie Project. Edward was thrilled to receive the roll of Orpheus, especially considering this is the first Williston Scholars project that he has been invited to participate in. He hopes that everyone can try and realize the Orpheus inside of themselves and work to understand the positives and negatives of their little Orpheus.
CALEB STERN (NASTY INTERESTING MAN, LORD OF THE UNDERWORLD)
Caleb Stern began his entanglement with the theater in 5th grade, with a production of Twelfth Night. Since then, he has gone on to perform in such shows as Romeo and Juliet, In The Heights, Peter and the Starcatcher, Our Town, and Into The Woods. A six-year senior, Caleb is excited and honored to participate in Eurydice as the Nasty Interesting Man, a man who has been described as both nasty and interesting, and Lord of the Underworld.
ALEX MARWAHA (EURYDICE'S FATHER
Alex has been backstage in the theatre for five years now. He has worked constructing sets for eight shows and has been backstage in four. Recently he acted in The Laramie Project, a show with deep personal importance to him. Currently he is also the Stage Manager for Crazy For You. He appreciates the writing and the detailing of the characters in Eurydice and he is excited to be a part of another show, reminding him of what it is like to be an actor. Alex has the honor of playing Eurydice’s father in the underworld.
SARAH MARKEY (LITTLE STONE)
Sarah Markey, a freshman from Northampton, Massachusetts, started at Williston in seventh grade. She enjoys making people laugh through theater and performing. Last spring she played Trinculo in the Tempest. Sarah is thankful for the experience she's gained from working along side the talented actors in Eurydice.
ALEXA KERR (BIG STONE)
Alexa is a sophomore here at Williston and started her theatre career playing Marigold in her fifth-grade production of “H.M.S Pinafore”. Since then she has been a part of seven different shows including the most recent fall play, “The Laramie Project” and is so excited to be working on Eurydice. She has had such a great time working on this play with the rest of her cast and is so thankful to be part of it. She would like to thank her amazing director Maddie and her stage manager Margaret for being so patient. She hopes you enjoy the show!
NOE PERRY-GREENE (LOUD STONE)
Freshman Noe Perry-Greene has been a rather loud person her whole life, and somewhere along the line, this loudness translated itself into acting. When the opportunity to act in Eurydice came up, she was honored to be a part of it and excited for the journey ahead. Noe has acted in multiple Williston shows, including Our Town, The Tempest, and The Laramie Project, and will be returning to the Williston stage for their spring production of Crazy for You. Noe hopes that the audience will take away from Eurydice how important it is to remember.
MARGARET STRANGE (STAGE MANAGER)
Margaret is in her fifth year at Williston and has been working backstage since 8th grade. She has built the sets for numerous shows and in the past few years has stage managed several including Our Town and The Laramie Project. Margaret is very lucky to be able to stage manage this show as a part of her Williston Scholars project and has loved working with everyone. She hopes the audience enjoys Eurydice.
HANNAH CANNIZZO (COSTUME DESIGNER)
Hannah Cannizzo is a sophomore at Williston and this is her second year in costume shop. She has worked on productions such as last year’s musical, Into the Woods, as well as Crazy for You, this year's spring production, plus the Williston Scholars projects of True West and Eurydice. She is very excited to part of such a wonderful cast and crew here at Williston, and especially in the student run projects. Hannah hopes the audience will enjoy the hard work and effort put into making this show become a reality.
