#17 Memphis 66, SMU 45 Tigers clinch west division championship

The victory clinched Memphis' first-ever berth into the American Athletic Conference Championship game. The game will be played on Dec. 2.

This is just the eighth time in program history that the Tigers have posted nine or more victories in a season.

Only four other Memphis teams have started 9-1 or better. The last time it happened was the 9-0-1 record during the 1963 season.

WR Anthony Miller became the all-time career reception leader with eight catches against SMU. He now has 217 catches in his career. Miller also holds the career receiving yards and TD records at Memphis.

Miller finished the day with 163 total receiving yards and two touchdowns. He now has 13 receiving TD this season, one shy of matching his career-high, set last season.

Miller also extended his consecutive games with a catch streak to 35.

With two TD against SMU, RB Patrick Taylor now has 10 TD this season and is one shy of cracking the Memphis top 10 list for rushing TD in a season.

Taylor finished with 114 rushing yards, just the second time in his career he cracked triple-digit rushing yards. The only other time was against UL Monroe in the season-opener.

QB Riley Ferguson finished with 320 passing yards, two passing TD and a career-high three rushing TD.

Ferguson now has a career-high six rushing TD this season and it was the second time in his career he has had multiple rushing TD in a game.

With 320 total passing yards, Ferguson eclipsed 3,000 yards this season. It was his fifth 300+ yard game this season and 13th of his career.

RB Darrell Henderson led the Tigers with 147 rushing yards and two rushing TD. He broke out for a 70-yard rushing TD in the second quarter. This season, he has four games with a long rush of at least 60 yards.

It was the second game this season Memphis has had two players rush for more than 100 yards. The duo of Patrick Taylor and Darrell Henderson did so in the season-opener against UL Monroe.

WR Damonte Coxie had a career-high five receptions. He finished with 62 yards for the Tigers.

Memphis will now host ECU for Senior Day on Nov. 25. Kickoff against the Pirates is set for 11 a.m. on ESPNU.
