USA South 2016-17 Fall Season in review

DANVILLE, Va. - The Huntingdon College football team is heading back to the playoffs. With a 42-14 win over Averett University on Saturday, the Hawks clinched their second straight USA South Athletic Conference championship. As the conference champion, the Hawks advance to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the third time in program history (Full story below).

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2016 All-Conference awards for football. A total of 60 student-athletes have earned honors. The Huntingdon College trio of Luke Bailey, DeAnte' Griffith and Mike Turk were named Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively. Wrapping-up the individual awards were Ferrum College teammates, Brian Mann and Montel Lee who were named Offensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. The USA South also recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school (Full list of All-Conference honorees in link below).

DANVILLE, Va. - The 2016 USA South Volleyball Tournament finals took place on Saturday, November 5 in Danville, Virginia on the campus of Averett University as East Division second seed Meredith swept the East Division top-seed and host Cougars, 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21), to collect the program's first USA South Tournament championship (Full story below).

Meredith College's Caroline Corey collected Rookie of the Year accolades while Piedmont College's Haley Hixon was named Libero of the Year. MARYVILLE, Tn - The 2016 USA South Men's Soccer Tournament final took place on Saturday, November 5 in Maryville, Tennessee on the campus of Maryville College as the top-seeded Scots defeated second-seeded N.C. Wesleyan, 2-1, to take the championship (Full story below).

Maryville College's Caleb Lucas was named Player of the Year while his coach, Pepe Fernandez collected Coach of the Year accolades. N.C. Wesleyan College's Baboucarr Njie rounded out the individual award winners. Fall Recap: Cross Country

TALLULAH FALLS, Ga. - The 2016 USA South Men's Cross Country Championship took place on Saturday, October 29 at the Tallulah Falls School Farm Course in Tallulah Falls, Georgia. Piedmont College captured the championship for the second consecutive season. The Lions bested second place Covenant College by 24 points. Individually, Maryville College's Daniel Beckett won the meet as he finished the 8,000 meter course first in a time of 28:04 (Full story and results below).

TALLULAH FALLS, Ga. - The 2016 USA South Women's Cross Country Championship took place on Saturday, October 29st the Tallulah Falls School Farm Course in Tallulah Falls, Georgia. Piedmont College captured the championship for the first time in program history. The Lions topped second place Meredith College by 43 points. Individually, Piedmont's Reese Bowles won the meet as she finished the 6,000 meter course first in a time of 23:42 (Full story and results below).

The top-seven runners at the meet were named First Team All-Conference while finishers 8-14 were awarded Second Team All-Conference accolades. Additionally, the Conference's Runner of the Year, Rookie Runner of the Year and Coach of the Year were announced. (Full All-Conference team found below).

Runner of the Year and Rookie Runner of the Year: Daniel Beckett (Maryville)

Coach of the Year: Jeff Jenkins (Piedmont)

The first seven finishers at the meet were named First Team All-Conference. The next seven runners earned Second Team All-Conference accolades while the following nine runners collected Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. Also, the Conference's Runner of the Year, Rookie Runner of the Year and Coach of the Year were announced (Full All-Conference team found below).
