fndmntl a marriage of two powerhouse coffee brands opens its first store located in the heart of makati city

This hip coffee shop opened last 5th September and located along Parkview Terraces in Makati isn't just another third wave coffee joint, but a synergistic partnership between two powerful forces in the local coffee industry.

From the guys behind Yardstick Coffee and Bo's Coffee, a new brand emerges and is called Fundamental. So now you're asking - why FUNDAMENTAL? One might seem that this is just going to be another hipster cafe. But with a short term goal of a roadmap with ten to fifteen more stores to open within the next few years, you should know that the owners are taking their passion to greater heights.

So what makes fundamental coffee, fundamental?

The Story

For starters, Fundamental is driven by two philosophies - and one is going 'back to basics' of coffee-making --- which is simplified and normalized, and it spans across the various parts of the set-up in their first branch. They value convenience and accessibility of real coffee for everyone to enjoy - much like how you make it at home.

My First impression: Hipster Feels Everywhere.

Excellent display of the coffee bar and kitchen set up, which is built for the baristas to make your orders in the most efficient time possible.
Impressive execution of the cafe's menu located at one of Fundamental's walls. The menu is conceptualized by the Head Chef of Bo's Coffee for Fundamental.

The second philosophy of is what they call 'back to the future', where in terms of business operations, Fundamental might probably be a result of different learnings from the small and big players in the coffee industry, yet, it is still set as scalable and adaptable with the times. The baristas at Fundamental shouldn't let people wait for five minutes for a mediocre coffee cup. They do it fast enough but careful enough not to destroy the quality of their food and drinks. And that, I think, is the experience that is valuable for consumers.

This is evident with their 'Ready To Drink' categories and the addition of Housemade Add Ons such as chocolate syrup, butterscotch syrup and almond milk.

Andre Chanco, one of the owners, hangs out by the bar as he explains more on how Fundamental became a reality and the philosophies behind the brand.
