Problems Running CS5- error 16

I installed the student editon of the CS5 Production Premium Suit, but when I try to open any of the programs it comes up with the error message:

"Configuration error

Please uninstall and reinstall the product.

If this problem still occurs, please contact Adobe technical support for help, and mention the error code shown at the bottom of this screen.

Error: 16

http://www.adobe.com/support/"

I uninstalled and reinstalled it with no success.

So then I attempted to look up the problem online and found this article http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/827/cpsid_82744.html#main_MacOSX It seemed like it would be the perfect solution, but most of the steps didn't match up to options I had.

For starters, I was told to look for the PCD folder under "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD/" while I found that folder in the "Bootcamp/Program Files/ Common Files/ Adobe/ Adobe PCD." I was completely unable to find a SLStore folder, despite running several different searches on my computer. I have no idea why these files were completely missplaced (or if that is what is affecting it), as I ran the install normally on my hard-drive (telling it to instal in the "Applications" folder).

I checked the PCD folder I could access, and it showed the correct user settings of "read and write", despite the fact I didn't actually have a lock or gear icon that would of allowed me to edit the settings anyways.

So now I don't know what else to try, and hence why I'm asking here.

Jhykxh20 are you running Creative Suite 5 under Mac OS or using Windows via Bootcamp.  From your description it sounds like you were using the Mac OS to review the contents of your Bootcamp partition.

I'm attempting to run cs5 from my Mac partition, where I installed it.

I have no idea why parts of the install ended up showing in Bootcamp, while I can't find it locally through the Mac.

Do you have other Adobe products installed on your bootcamp partition?  The location you posted is accurate for a Windows installation.

Beyond that do you receive any type of error message when you try to reinstall the software?  If so I would recommend you begin with running the Adobe Support Advisor to review your installation logs.

I ran the Support Advisor and got the error message:

"Inspection found an issue but cannot determine the cause or corrective action. Please contact Adobe Support for further assistance. http://www.adobe.com/support"

Jdykxh20 can you please choose the option, within the Adobe Support Advisor, to package for support and respond to this thread with your token number.

Alternately you can analyze the log file I would recommend reviewing Troubleshoot CS5 and CS5.5 installation with install logs.

I attempted to try the Troubleshooting for installation with install logs and very quickly hit a  very large snag- I don't have any logs.

I searched under "

• Mac OS: /Library/Logs/Adobe/Installers/ " as it suggested, and the "Adobe" folder was completely empty.

That is strange jdykxh20 as the Adobe Support Advisor was able to send a copy of your log files from that location.  Looking at your log and it appears that the installer has failed to verify the intergrity of some of the payload files.

If you are installing from a DVD I would recommend trying to copy the install files to your hard drive to see if you receive a disc error.  You might also try copying the install files on another computer to see if there maybe a failure with the optical drive.

If you are using a previously downloaded copy then I would recomment downloading a fresh copy of the install files.

I'm installing from a download, I'm running a cleaner from you site now which instructs me to uninstall everything again and then run that program before trying to install again.

Ok I would also recommend you download a fresh copy of the install files as well.   You might even want to download it on another computer just to help verify that you are not downloading over a corrupted copy.

I uninstalled it, deleted the original zip file I downloaded, restarted, ran the cleaner, redowloaded the file from your site, reinstalled it and am still coming up with the same exact error message.

The only positve I can note from bothering to do all of that, is I can now access the PCD and SLStore files. However after checking them, they are set up correctly to what http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/827/cpsid_82744.html#main_SLStore says they should be anyways.

I called your tech support several hours ago and after explaining all of this and coming up with the result that the person I was talking to didn't know a solution either and would have someone else call me back, I have yet to hear back from them, so I really do hope you can figure this out.

I tried it on another computer and it worked fine, so the good news is that it's not the file- but that hardly helps me at all, since I still don't have the program running on my own computer. It's been almost a week since I've tried installing this and I still have the same error message I started with.. and I'm quiet frankly a little fed up trying to figure this out. Is there nothing else I can try? I'm really tired of unsuccessfully running the same exact checks over and over.

I am not sure what version of Mac OS you are using but I would recommend looking up how to log in as a root user and then couple that with step 5 in General installation troubleshooting | CS5 and CS5.5 products.  This will allow you to login as root as well as safe boot.  I would then try the installation under the root user account.

I ran into this same issue, for me this guide was the key.  Unfortunately, the permissions listed for the "Adobe PCD" directory appears to be listed incorrectly.  I used the drwxr-xr-x specified and Error 16 still occured.  However, I changed it to drwxrwxrwx and everything is now working normally.

So, for me... for both "Adobe PCD" and "SLStore" need to be set to these permissions:

Mac OS:

  • Owner = System = read/write
  • Group = Admin = read/write
  • Everyone = read/write
  • Or from the terminal, drwxrwxrwx root admin
